This Mother's Son in Starlight
by Nordette Adams
Wednesday, February 8, 2006

For Aberjhani upon the transition of his mother,
WillieMae Griffin Lloyd
(January 27, 1922-February 8, 2006)..

And one poet said to the other poet,
"Wonderful blessings you laid on us here, Aberjhani."*
And another poet said,
"Sometimes you meet someone who exudes a dynamic energy
coming from an inner flame," and she called him "Soulsinger"**
And yet another called "The Man that Poetry Made"
"sublime" and "The Onyx of Savannah."***

The Skylark, soars —
"This Mother's Son," with soul deep
and spirit wide as the shimmering expanse
of God's secret ocean, roaring
rhythmic prayers of mystics.

I, too, a poet, call him one born fresh
from The Verb's vision and one carved bold
from the monolith of grace,
One who stands an indomitable man
shaped by pain, loss, love, and
the emerald dreams of African kings,
the midnight song of Native chiefs,
the spiraling passions of prophets.

Final issue of WillieMae ...
"She did Jesus' recipe proud," he said.
And so he graced her life well
And so he blessed her with strength
as he has been so blessed.

Renamed by angels,
"one who loves god in all things,"
baby in place, elder in stature,
the royal face in public spaces, he graces us all
with unparalleled gifts and walks in beauty, peace,
and forgiveness
for the foolishness of disquieted minds —
one mother's son
risen to the full measure of a human being noble.

Nordette, this is well prepared and well thought out and perhaps visionary on levels mere humans can hardly imagine. Maybe even a glimpse into the soul of a poet who's maternal parent planted things there we have yet to glimpse. An honoroble tribute to one who will most certainly be missed but who's essence remains in our midst. BRAVO!

Love this "eavesdropping on the conversations of gods", Nordette, to convey the inspired and elevated thoughts of mortal men and women on the presence amongst us of one so Chosen... and the womb from which he came. Wonderfully crafted with sensitivity, compassion and insight, making tribute not only to one Queen's passing, but also to the gift she has left us with, a glowing testimony to her bounty. Respect and honour to all three of you - Authors of Love and Grace each one: "one born fresh from The Verb's vision and one carved bold from the monolith of grace" - such balance and fine tuning in these words. Outstanding! Bless you and thank you, Kate xx

Truth of it is, only a true friend would design a tribute to another for the passing of his mother. A most honorable, compassionate thing to do for Aberjhani in his time of need. Condolences, Aberjhani. You are the fine workings of a mother's son so very Blessed and anointed with creativity as is your soul sister, Ms. Adams. May you lay your mother to rest and may you send her spirit off to the afterlife. Blessed Be.
